Sometimes selecting an existing tab will cause it to open in a new window. Why?

Running Firefox browser and have a Yahoo home page and another tab in that window with Yahoo mail. Sometimes have other tabs open in the same window as well. At times, when moving (switching) from one tab to another, the tab I switch to will open in a new window all by itself, instead of staying put in the original window. Why does this happen? Thanks for looking at the problem.

Make sure that you do not drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking. Current Firefox versions have a feature called tear-off tabs. You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window. You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.
