where is the 'tool' icon to access account settings and add an email account
I wish to add a gmail account but cannot find the 'tools' icon to add the account.

Tools (Alt-T) - Account Settings. Or press Alt or F10 to restore the menu bar. Or use the hamburger button in the upper right corner (3 bar button) - Options - Account Settings. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration
