The original (current) Firefox 3.0 browser version is insufficient because most website content is no longer compatible. I can't get the package manager to upgrade at all, so I want to find a newer Firefox binary that I can load and use to make the Internet browser, and hence, the computer functional once again. Thank you.

Ubuntu Linux 2.6 ??

The first version back in 2004 was Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog).

At any rate, you're going to need to upgrade to a newer version of Linux to be able to install a much newer version of Firefox.

Unfortunately, upgrading Linux does not seem to be an option for this old HP Mini 1000 Netbook. Or if it is, I have not yet discovered the magic necessary to convert it.  ;-)
