I have two gmail accounts, each used for a different purpose. One is accessed through the Firefox browser, the other through Google. When I experienced problems with my Firefox browser, I uninstalled it and reinstalled a new Firefox browser. Somehow I (unintentionally) lost the Firefox gmail account during this operation. After jumping through all the prescribed hoops, the only gmail account I could get on my new Firefox browser is the one that's already on my Google account.

How can I regain my former Firefox gmail account? Is it--and all the information it contained--lost to me forever?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

and

  • Remove Cookies

Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Then Tools > Options > Privacy.

Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. There is a button on the right side called Show Cookies.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar.. Then Tools > Options > Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

hello, it isn't clear yet from your original description what exactly happens when you try to access the account - do you get any sort of error message? please provide as much detail about the issue as you can...

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Since I posted, I can access the old account but have to do it through HISTORY. I would like a more direct way to get to the old account... an icon, maybe, on either my home page or the Firefox start page. When I put an icon on the Firefox page, it sends me to the Google start page which contains the icon for the Google e(g)mail. Any idea how I can get an icon that would get me the old Firefox gmail?

I've removed the cookies several times... to no avail.

Delete the old bookmark / shortcut. Then make new ones.

Don't know how to delete the (apparently permanent) gmail notice on the Google start page. Sorry... I'm such a novice, don't understand most of the computer terminology.

On the Google page? When did you say that?

Log onto Google, then check your options. Including Gmail.
