I can see and use previously bookmarked pages from the Bookmarks bar. The bookmarks library folder, however is empty. I cannot import or restore bookmarks to it, and it will not save new bookmarks. In fact, the "Add bookmarks" does not list any folders in which to file new bookmarks. I tried trashing Firefox and downloading a new version. Didn't solve it. I searched the troubleshooting resources and the only help I found suggested opening the Profile folder to delete possibly corrupted files such as places.sqlite but can't find any such folder or files on my hard drive. Help! Thank you!

This was very helpful and it worked really well. I just deleted the places.sqlite file, restarted and all was well, BUT....it took me a lot of time to figure out how to get to my "Profile" folder. For those of you with this same problem this wonderful folder is at username/library/applications support/Firefox/profiles/weirdlynamed folder. Good luck!
