I have had to re-install most things on a new hard drive. Using XP, sp2. My older Netscape passwords had transferred into Firefox 3,*, but I upgraded to 4, and began using Thunderbird. I restored the files which contain this info into Netscape (7.2), but am unable to read them. The info is somehow encrypted. I get the name of the site when I force it to open in Netscape, but no user name or password shows up.

Netscape 7.2 (Aug 2004) was based upon Mozilla 1.7.2 which used a completely different storage system for passwords than Firefox 3.x versions did - they aren't compatible with each other.

Do you have the file key3.db with the encryption key?

If you have then this migth work: Copy the file key3.db and the .s file with the passwords to the Firefox Profile Folder and rename the .s files to signons.txt
You need to remove an exiting file signons.sqlite to make Firefox use the signons.txt file.
