I've used Firefox successfully for a few weeks on an iMac. Suddenly, when opening a link in a site, Firefox starts to create an infinite number of tabs. Only way to stop it is to Quit. This doesn't happen on same link with Safari.

See Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link, in particular the section "Change the action for a content type". A common cause of this is the mailto protocol being set to "Use Firefox"
