Sometime back a few years, verizon sold to frontier communications, but allowed those of us who had a verizon email account to still use the verizon.net email, but had to access it through AOL. As longs as I go to AOL or use the AOL app, I can just use my username.verizon.net and password and get email, but I really have always liked the idea of downloading the email to my laptop for many reasons. AOL wants me to use their app. So, I try to setup my email address from username.verizon.net and the Thunderbird states that it has found the configuration, but it is unable to complete the task and just tells me it's a possible wrong password, username, or configuration. It is not, and I'm wondering if it's trying to get it via Verizon instead of AOL? Now, Verizon is full force into mobile phones and email accounts again, but through their own Verizon web site , not AOL. My question is: HOW do I setup my verizon.net email using Thunderbird to download it from AOL? It isn't working through POP3 or IMAP.

AOL requires an APP password when using email clients on a PC. I believe you must go to the AOL site and select the security page and can set up the APP password there. See this page for more info: https://help.aol.com/articles/Create-and-manage-app-password
