I'd like to change firefox behavior (preferences, configuration, modify css, add-on, whatever) so that when I double-click a link it opens the link in new window (rather than replace the current page). Please help me figure out how to make this happen. I am running Firefox 77.0.1 (64-bit) under Ubuntu 16.04.

Hi Mike, what should a single-click do? I'm not sure it will be easy to set Firefox to be patient and check for a double-click instead of reacting to the first click. Hmm...

You could take a look at add-ons that can modify the links to target a new window (or a new tab if you keep the default setting of diverting new windows to a new tab instead). For example:
