Why does deleting messages in Outlook.com result in them being deleted from my downloaded messages in Thunderbird?

This has not happened with my Talktalk messages but has happened with Outlook recently, resulting in messages that I wanted to keep on my computer being lost completely. I daren't check it again on my Talktalk mail messages in case the same thing happens. Is it a new feature in Thunderbird?

If you're using IMAP Thunderbird will always default to synchronize any changes (including deleting mail) done on the webmail interface.

If you want to keep email on your computer, move / copy them to Local Folders.
