I just updated Firefox to 58.0 and lost all logins and passwords. I want to get them back.

I just did as asked and have done many times in the past and updated Firefox. I did it the normal way but this time when I opened it all of the logins and passwords were gone. Everything else looks normal including Bookmarks and even exceptions to saving passwords for banking sites. The new version is 58.0.1 and I have tried all fixes from prior versions that I can find including finding an Old folder on my desktop and copying the two files over. None were really clear where to paste them as they were where to find them but I tried a couple of places and since one instructions set said to change the extensions to .old, I tried that too (key3 and logins.json). I will need help on this or I will be spending a lot of time restoring everything manually.

I did not want to do the system restore, then try to save the info (if present), then update, and then restore them (if they were there). It would not be worth the trouble. I spent hours last night trying to restore them and it did not work so I posted this question and after another hour with no answer I went to bed. This morning I spent a single hour manually restoring all logins and passwords that were important and I am done. I should have gone to bed 3 hours earlier so I could have gotten up earlier and done it sooner. This is what happens when upset leads to near panic and a cloudy brain at a late hour. This should not have happened though so I am not really happy about it.

Let's try a System Restore to before the time Firefox was updated, and see if we can back this up from that time period. After doing a System Restore, check if your passwords are there again and try to export the file.
