All messages pre 8th December in the inbox on my laptop have gone. Other folders seem to be ok. Messages have come in since then and seem to be ok. E-mail provider says I access mail using POP which removes it from the server immediately after downloading, so there is never any mail left in the server InBox and that they don't know why Thunderbird should lose mail.

I currently cannot view any messages that came in prior to this happening.

Any help and advice would be gratefully received.

I suggest you check your anti virus activity for the deletion or quarantine of a file called inbox.

Most folk complaining mail before a certain date went missing from their inbox are the victims of over zealous anti virus programs.
