An Error Occurred While Printing
Recently upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to Windows 10 Pro x64. Whenever I try to print, I get the error "An Error Occurred While Printing". I've done a lot of searches on this and found lots of threads on this topic, but nothing is working.
I get the same error in Safe Mode.
Created a new profile, same error.
Print preview works fine.
Uninstalled Thunderbird, deleted the install folder, did clean install.
Updated the firmware and driver for my HP OfficeJet Pro 8615.
Printing works fine for all other apps (except Firefox 45.0.2 which gives the same error).
Tried deleting all the "print." entries in Prefs.js.
Any ideas on what else to try?

tried printing to another printer driver, say a PDF printer to see if it is the driver
Unfortunately, that's not working either.
After all the tinkering I've been doing, I no longer get the error, but nothing prints. When testing the PDF scenario, it even prompts me to pick the folder and PDF name, but then nothing happens. No PDF is created.
One other thing to mention, when I first select File -> Print, the first window that pops up is the one saying its loading content for printing. In the past, that window would only be there for about a second or two, especially for what would be just a one page document. However, it stays there for a good 15-20 seconds before going to the next window where you select a printer.
That loading for printing I think creates a file in the temp folder. I wonder if your anti virus is getting in on the act and causing issues when the file is created.
Sorry, forgot to mention that I tested this with the AV turned off. I completely exited it and still have the same problem.
Also just tried, once again, creating another new profile, downloading some emails and tried to print them out. The only difference is that the first stage (loading content for printing) goes by so fast you don't even see it. However, still, nothing prints.
Can you access the 'Printer' in Control Panel and tell me if there are any documents waiting to be printed ?
No documents in the queue.
Just noticed something very strange. Before I attempt to print, there is no printer icon in my system tray. Immediately after I try to print, the printer icon shows up in the tray, but when I hover over it, it says "0 document(s) pending...". After about a minute, the printer icon in the tray goes away.
So, it would seem that Firefox/Thunderbird is making contact with the printer, or at least the printer queue, but just isn't sending anything to it????

I think Bug 1265126 refers.... While I see it marked fixed, I see no uplift to the V45 release version.
That does look promising although not exactly the same issue I'm having.
I was debating whether to open a bug in Bugzilla. Now its just a waiting game.
Did you try the daily version listed in the Bug?
Just tried it. No longer get the error, but the behavior (not actually printing) is the same. I have updated the bug with the details.

Just happened to be talking to a friend today who did a Win 7 -> Win 10 upgrade and asked him to test this. He also is unable to print.
Is anyone else seeing this issue?

The above bug report was closed based on John's comments "After extensive testing and research on this issue, it turns out to be a problem with certain HP printers and Windows 10, so its not a Firefox/Thunderbird issue."
