Updated to Ver. 97, Bookmarks All Gone, Without Any Options to Restore

more options

Hey there, My PC just automatically updated Firefox for me today, but now all of my bookmarks are completely gone. I've checked to make sure a new profile wasn't created, but I still have only the one default one. I've confirmed that all my credentials are still remembered when navigating manually to the same site... just zero bookmarks, and no options available to restore then via an older backup, as Firefox failed to make any too.

Any recommendations?

Sorry to hear about this problem!

It sounds like you have already reviewed the common methods of recovery, such as the Restore menu. Normally it will list backups from approximately the previous two weeks. Yours are all gone? (The Restore menu is the one mentioned in this article: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer)

Did your Firefox perform a Refresh? The evidence would be an new Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop.

Did you lose any history or is history intact?

Best as I can tell, it doesn't appear to have produced the "Old Firefox Data" folder either. History is all still there, and I've been using that to remake some of my old bookmarks in the mean time... just, this is gunna take a loooong while. XD

But yeah, bookmarks just up and disappeared entirely. Kinda worried this is just going to happen again during the next update.

It's not normally for bookmarks and bookmark backups to be thoroughly purged while all other data survives.

You could try:

Exploring Restore Points Safely

Set Windows to show hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then download and run one of these two programs:

Within the most recent restore point shown in the program, you can explore along this path to see whether you can find a shadow copy of your profile:

\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your-profile

You can export bookmark backup files to a convenient location such as your currently live desktop.

Anything there to possibly restore?
