I have saved (inadvertently) an email I was composing as a template. It has now disappeared and I cannot find it. How do I access and recover saved templates?

Go to Account Settings > Copies & Folders then check where you've configured Thunderbird to save Drafts and Templates. By default, the compose/write window is set to save drafts and not templates, so if you never changed this setting, then the message was saved as a draft in the location shown in Account Settings.
