I am new to Thunderbird as I am now using Win10 and I really like it. I seem to have 2 versions installed 38.5.0 and 45.1.1. Strange thing is that 45.1.1 which I understand is the latest version installed a few days before 38.5.0. I can't find out which version I am actually using and wonder if I can safely uninstall 38.5.0 now? Any advice much appreciated.

That is very strange, how could you get 38.5.0 unless you had the installation file stored and ran it. Your current version should display in HELP/About Thunderbird there you can also look for updates AN update should only affect your program-files not your profile

Your program-files would be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird" And your profile ( mails, data and settings) in C:\Users\"your_windows_ user_name"\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

As long as you don't delete your profile you can delete and reinstall if you need to. Just as a precaution you could make a safety copy of your profile.

Many thanks Gospen, that was very helpful. My list of apps showed both versions installed but using your info I copied my settings etc and uninstalled both and just did a fresh install of 45.1.1 and its just fine. Curiously when I went back to look at my original download file it was described as version 17!
