Firefox Version: 47.0 Operating System: Windows 7 .... but none of these details makes any difference to the problem, of Adobe Flash breaking itself every few days and of nil cooperation between Adobe and FF, so that even if Adobe continues to refuse testing its products properly, and continues on its path of chucking out new versions every few days, then those new versions might at least install seamlessly, without the intensly irritating and time wasting process of finding an Adobe site, downloading a new version, installing it, and having to restart FF ..... every few days!!!

Adobe Flash, as the name implies, is developed by adobe, thus, installation and updates are managed by adobe themselves. You can contact them for support if you have set flash to update automatically if it isn't, but Mozilla and Firefox are not able to influence flash in anyway.

Plugins are installed on system and not in Firefox whether on Windows, Mac or Linux.

The Flash Player 21.0.0.242 is not a new update as it came out on May 12.

There is however a new critical security update for Flash Player coming in the next day.

that's not support, nor helping. Flash works regardless of updating. Can you PLEASE offer a solution or a workaround..Can we, or can we not, disable being bullied into manual alowing or updating flash? Waivers and disclamers are welcome, just give us the option. People are not asking this cause they have nothing to do, but because YOUR software does this all the time with flash, and i believe ONLY with flash. YOURS, not adobe's. If it were up to me i'd ban flash altogether cause the nubmer of updates they have is rediculous, but you're right on their tail with that number.. Thanks

Ajgor,

A solution or a workaround for what? Mozilla just plain doesn't update Flash, that's Adobe's job. They bought the company that originally created Flash (Macromedia), it's now their application and their NPAPI plugin for Firefox.

Older versions of Flash are "hard blocked", just no allowed to be enabled. While more recent "older" versions get "soft blocked"; user's can't set Flash to Always Activate but Firefox sets Flash to Ask to Activate. Typically only the absolute latest version of Flash is allowed to be set to Always Activate,

Like talking to a wall..we all know you don't create or update flash, and you shouldn't. But WHY, or better HOW do you manage to block flash everytime a new flash is out? Last year or so everytime i upgraded FF, first thing that waited for me was a notification that flash is blocked cause out of date. The question, as you may notice, is on firefox behaviour. Thanks

It is Adobe that says their Flash Player Plugins are vulnerable and Mozilla then decides whether it is severe enough to add to blocklist for click to play soft blocking. Not every single Flash player version was added to list though since Dec 2014 and was only blocked when it was in a version range added to list. https://helpx.adobe.com/security.html https://helpx.adobe.com/security.html#flashplayer

The Flash Player plugin is only set to Ask to Activate (click to play) if you have a older version that was added to blocklist due to critical vulnerabilities. Any version (such as current) not in version range on blocklist is not affected and can be set to always activate.

Mozilla would prefer to not put versions of Npapi Flash Player on blocklist as Mozilla did not put any Flash Player versions on the blocklist for a period between Feb/Mar 2013 and Dec 2014 as the security concerns in Flash Player were not severe enough to warrant doing so then. The problem is when versions were added on blocklist in Dec 2014 for click to play soft blocking so many people were still using a old version of Flash Player from early 2013 because they never bothered to update.

https://addons.mozilla.org/blocked/ October 28, 2016: Flash Player Plugin 22.0.0.211 to 23.0.0.185

Flash Player 23.0.0.185 is two updates behind as there was 23.0.0.205 and the current 23.0.0.207 released on Nov 8.
