closing one open tab closes Firefox alltogether
(so i have to think of using one extra blank tab, which i forget all the time ;-) How do i fix this? It's a small but irritating issue on my desktop compu (latest version with win.8.1)

There is a preference that can be "toggled" to have it not close the window when you close the Last Tab.
browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab
Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter. Accept the warning.
Then paste that pref in the "Search" field that the top. Below the Search line - double-click that pref to "toggle" it to False. Then restart Firefox.

fixed, thank you. I found the line 'browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab' in the alphabetical list under about:config and doubleclicked it.
