If new messages is in new window it is not easy to find again on a busy screen. new window of thunderbird new message does not come forward by using cmd-tab and I have to make it active by hand. very annoying how to make thunderbird write new message in tab? At the moment it is not possible to write messages in a tab instead of in a window. If you want to read more on the issue, check out bug 449299, but please don't comment on the bug...

On Mac OS X you can use Command-Accent (`) to activate the next open window in the current application and Command-Shift-Accent (`) to activate the previous open window.

Thanks. This will not solve the problem. It is a kind of work-around. I do use all kind of applications to compose messages. If this I would have to cmd-tab back to Thunderbird and cmd-` to the message.
