What does "The Enterprise Policies service is inactive" actually mean?

more options

When I type about:policies, I get "The Enterprise Policies service is inactive". I'm trying to validate my configuration against Firefox STIGs which require certain of these policies to be set. So what does this message actually mean? Does it mean no policies are set? Are they set somewhere else? I have Windows Server 2016. Thank you.

It means they aren't being read at all. Is there an error message?

How are you applying policy?

Hi thanks for the reply. Could you give more specific details on what it means? "They aren't being read at all" meaning that Firefox has no policies applied whatsoever? Even if they're set in Local Group Policy or GPO they aren't applied? Any more details on exactly what this message means at a technical level would be immensely helpful.

It means Firefox did not find any policies in the Windows Registry or in the folder where you would have dropped a policies.json file.

If you fire up regedit.exe on the system, do you find policies under

Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox

under either HKCU or HKLM ?

Assuming not, how are you setting the policies you expect to find?
