When I type a letter (not when text inputs are selected; i.e. for navigation not for writing) the browser automatically searches for the letter.
I use alphabetical keys to navigate often, but recently every time I try to, the browser will automatically pop-up the "Find in page" and search for it.

Did you check the setting in "Options/Preferences > Advanced > General" (about:preferences#advanced)?
