Where did you get your USHolidays calendar? most of those are read only unless you actually downloaded and imported an ICS file.

I have 10+ other tasks that work as expected. Is there a file (or database) that holds tasks that I could edit manually?

YES - this is the only US Holidays calendar task, all others are home.

I do not know where I got the US Holidays calendar. There is not a delete of US Holidays calendar, do I unsubscribe?
