Lately I have not been able to search in google directly from address bar, which used to work flawlessly earlier. It gets stuck at "connecting" and nothing loads for ages. Tried clearing cache and cookies, and also tried in safe mode. I changed search engines and it worked in bing, yahoo, etc. The problem is only with google. I installed "google SSL" search from firefox addons and even that didn't work. However, I can easily visit www.google.com and search. Moreover, I have no problems using google search/sites using chromium browser. I am using firefox 50 on ubuntu linux.

UPDATE: I reckon that the problem is with every google site, including gmail. They do not load at all. However, when I enter www.google.com, it redirects to www.google.co.in which loads perfectly. With any other site named xyz.google.com/abcd the problem persists, i.e. it keeps trying to connect.
