Cant get the password enabled wont allow box checked security

I follow the directions going to options then security ,the " remember passwords for sites " check box is not highlighted and wont let me check it ?

Hi buffmont, if you have set Firefox to run in permanent private browsing mode (never remember history in the options > privacy panel) it won't offer to store your passwords.
