Bug when switching tab groups when mouse is over a tab
I use two tab groups, each having around 3-10 tabs open. I press Ctrl+` to switch between the two tab groups. Everything works fine unless I happen to have the mouse cursor positioned over a tab when I press Ctrl+`. In that case, Firefox appears to get confused and I get an unpredictable mix of tabs from both tab groups. I then have to move the mouse away from the tabs and press Ctrl+` twice to get the proper tab group I was trying to switch to. It's annoying.
I think this started happening in FF29 but I'm not sure.
First, I'd like to confirm that this is a bug. Second, I'd like to see it get fixed. I've tried searching for info on this on several occasions with no success. Does anyone know anything about it?

Ok nevermind, I did some more searching and found a bug in Bugzilla for it. The bug has been fixed and I've confirmed it with a nightly build. Looking forward to getting the fix in a regular release build.

Hi TomSD, Thank you for your inquiry. As finding and reproducing bugs is part of Support, I would be happy to help investigate this with you. I have used the shortcut and what actually comes up is a search text box to search for the tabs that contain that string. The matching tabs are highlighted, but I do not see a way to tab through them. Swtiching groups is done with these instructions you have to use Ctrl + Shift + e. Try just tabbing through them, I think the documentation needs to be updated.
However, it is also encouraged to file bugs in http://bugzilla.mozilla.org with all of the information in the following:
- a description of the bug as above
- how to reproduce the bug
- does it happen in a new profile, a fresh installation, and on more than one computer(I can help with this one, however I could not reproduce this with your steps)
- When is started (as you said in version 29)
Hi guigs2, Thanks for the response. I can file a bug but I kind of wanted to see if anyone knew anything about this issue, or if maybe I was doing something wrong. I also wanted to create something with better search visibility than Bugzilla in case anyone else has this problem.
I apologize for not specifying the issue clearly enough. It happens when using Ctrl+` to instantly switch between tab groups. This key lets you avoid having to open the panorama view that you get when you press Ctrl+Shift+E. The Ctrl+` shortcut is documented here.
The steps to reproduce the problem are as follows:
First, set yourself up with two tab groups: - Create a window with at least 5 tabs in it. Make sure they're actually open to different (unique) web sites. - Note which tabs they are. - Press Ctrl+Shift+E to enter panorama view. - Drag the last tab out of the tab group it's in, to form a new group. - Click on that same tab. This will switch to the new tab group and exit panorama view. - Open 3 or 4 more tabs in this window. Make sure they're open to different (unique) web sites, with none of them being the same as the ones open in the other tab group.
Now switch between tab groups with Ctrl+`: - Make sure the mouse cursor is NOT over any tab headers. - Press Ctrl+` repeatedly. You should see the browser switching between two distinct groups of tab headers. They correspond exactly to the tab groups you set up and see in the panorama view.
Now to observe the problem: - Move the mouse cursor over one of the tab headers. - Press Ctrl+` repeatedly. Now the tab headers get mixed up and don't correspond to the tab groups anymore.
Can you see it? Does it seem broken to you?
Ah so this does not work in Panorama view, but does when you have a tab group open. Can I confirm this with you? I need to look for an old keyboard as the mac on a vm does not work. My coworker confirmed that this works.
I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Using Panorama view (Ctrl+Shift+E) to switch between tab groups works fine. I only experience this problem when using the Ctrl+` keyboard shortcut to switch directly between tab groups (not involving Panorama view at all), and only then when the mouse cursor is over one of the tab headers.
Also, I'm using FF with a US English keyboard and Windows 7.

Yup, was just looking for that too, nightly is a bit away though, try the nightly download if it becomes too annoying.
