Are there any recommended email servers/email host companies I can use with thunderbird instead of using Hostgator?

Hostgator is having serious issues with email deliverability. I am not aware if I can use an alternative company to handle my email and still use Thunderbird - which I love so much.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thunderbird is email client software. It works with most email providers.

thanks for the reply Airmail. I realize this but looking for suggestions of email providers as I don't want to use Hostgator where my site is hosted. I've heard you can use separate email servers from your hosting company but I am not aware of any I can use.
