Firefox cannot download iTunes update

In latest Firefox 23 I'm not able to download iTunes setup via http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

It was already asked in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/950975 but it does not solve the issue.

The issue exists only if the http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html page shows before I confirm the download to a location on my computer.

The issue is present in both Firefox 23 and SeaMonkey 2.20.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Please do the following: - Click the Start button - In the Search box, type: Command Prompt - Right-click on the Command Prompt icon and select "Run as administrator"

In the black Command Prompt window:

1. Type netsh winsock reset, and then press the Enter key. 2. Type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and hit Enter. 3. Type netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

Reboot your computer - and the download should now work.

Please let me know if the issue still persist!

Thanks

I've restarted Firefox with add-ons disabled but it did not solve the issue.

Further testing showed that the issue exists only if the following two conditions are both true:

- Firefox has the "Always ask me where to save files" option enabled in General > Downloads.

- On http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ click Download Now button and do not confirm Save File in the dialog box until the page is redirected to http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html

So, a workaround is to specify the download directory in the preferences, or to click fast and confirm the download location before the download page redirects to http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html

I've tried this in latest Firefox, SeaMonkey and Iceweasel on MS Windows XP SP3, MS Windows 7 SP1, Linux Mint and Ubuntu, and all have the same issue.

Have you tried in any non-gecko based browsers?

I've tried Google Chrome. It doesn't have the issue when the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" option is enabled.

Can you reproduce in a new profile?

If the new profile works, transfer some files from the old one to the new one.

Waka_Flocka_Flame , the issue also exists in a new Firefox profile with just "Always ask me where to save files" option enabled. I expected this as I already checked the issue on 4 machines (WinXP, Win7, Linux Mint, Ubuntu) with Firefox, SeaMonkey and IceWeasel.

And what about you? Have you tried to reproduce the issue by following the steps I mentioned above:

(1) In Firefox options go to General > Downloads and enable "Always ask me where to save files".

(2) Open http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

(3) Click Download Now button and do not confirm Save File in the dialog box until the page is redirected to http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html

Have you written a bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org ?

About the URL formatting leave a space between > and the URL.

Thanks for writing the bug.

Offtopic: I didn't write a ">" -- just pasted the following URL http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27535634-Seamonkey-Seamonkey-and-Apple-Website-Download-Problem but bugzilla formatted this as shown on that page.

The real problem is that the user can't preview text before posting it to the bugzilla.

I also had this problem, and came across this solution. I changed the option of the downloads from asking me as to which folder it will be stored in to automatically downloading to one particular folder, and that has done the trick. Thank you, question owner, for persisting in finding a solution.
