TB downloading emails from Gmail trash folder

Hi, my Thunderbird has brought down 279 emails from Gmail. I opened Gmail and found the emails properly in the Trash folder. So it appears that Thunderbird is bringing down all folders??? I've been a user for years and never notice downloads from spam or trash before. New change to Tbird? Is there some way to exclude spam and trash folders from download? My version is 115.11.1 (64-bit) TYIA Richard

TB, by default, doesn't show notifications for new mail in Trash or Spam, and automatically empties them periodically. Right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe..., and unsubscribe the unwanted folders.
