I loaded firefox yesterday and my ad blocker add-on was disabled with no option to enable it. I got the message "it could not be verified for use in firefox and has been disabled." I tried downloading it again and also tried downloading a different ad blocker, but it won't download. I'm guessing firefox automatically updated to a new version that made my add-on's obsolete. I've started using Chrome browser because I can still use and ad blocker with Chrome. What's going on Mozilla? Is the problem on my end and is there a work around?

Thanks

If by update yesterday you mean the Fx 66.0.3 which was released back on April 10th. It was not the cause.

late Friday afternoon an unfortunate situation happened as a intermediate certificate being used by many extensions expired.

If 66.0.3 was indeed the cause then people would have had the issue after Release in April.

One of the many ways Mozilla has been trying to get Extensions working for people again is provide a update for 66.0 and 60.0 ESR as in 66.0.4 and 60.6.2esr. Other methods have been by a studies and a hotfix extension for example.

You can manually check for updates for 66.0.4 or download from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

There was a Bug-A-Boo with a Certificate Expiration Date dealing with the Add-ons. There's a new FF Version with the main Fix, 66.0.4.

Mozilla Blog Post Update:
A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061).
There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week. More information about the remaining issues can be found by clicking on the links to the release notes above.
