When I click on a link to a file (pdf, jpg, csv, etc...) I have to save it first and then open the download from the downward arrow. How do I open immediately?

When I click on a link to a file (pdf, jpg, csv, etc...) I have to save it first and then open the download from the downward arrow key on my toolbar. How do I stop this so the file opens automatically?

The answer given already doesn't, to me, address the question. These are e.g. PDF files, and they used to open immediately without having to click on the arrow and then the file itself.

That depends on how the server sends the file. If this is a MIME (content) type that is supported by other software then you can open the file automatically. If the file is send with a generic content type like application/octet-stream or as Content-Disposition:attachment then you can only save the file.

Perhaps I don't know enough to know, but it doesn't seem to help. I am talking about PDF files in particular, which clearly have a known extension and the software is there to open them. I tried installing the second addon described here, but it didn't make any difference -- still had to click on download arrow and then on the PDF file to open it. What am I missing?
