Two days ago my Thunderbird installation stopped being able to access my Gmail account. Everything was working fine up until then. Now I get a notice to allow Thunderbird to access Gmail, I click 'Allow' and it fails to authenticate. Collecting mail from my other non-Gmail accounts is unaffected and works fine.

I see these permission approvals are triggering email alerts to my backup Gmail account for this one re: "A new sign-in on Windows" and I am consistently clicking "Yes it was me'" with no effect. I have not done anything to block this activity, and I have no problem logging into this Gmail account from any web browser using the same credentials I am using with Thunderbird ... and which were already in place when this started happening 2 days ago.

I checked in Thunderbird Settings > Privacy & Security and cookies are being accepted, and I can see the cookies in the list.

I have tried deleting the saved (unchanged) password, removing the cookies, and even removing the account and setting it up again, with no joy.

When re-setting up the account this morning, the account creation does not complete and I am receiving this notice: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." (see attached screenshot)

The username and password were (a) unchanged from 3 days ago when this worked fine and (2) confirmed as I can log in to that Gmail account just fine with any web browser using the same credentials, even with incognito browser.

Thinking maybe the Thunderbird auto-detected configuration is incorrect, I changed the IMAP Connection Secutiry setting for the account from SSL/TLS to STARTTLS where it took about 2 minutes on the Checking Password stage and ultimately failed with the same error message.

TIA for any assistance with being able to use Thunderbird once again to work with this Gmail account.

I am using Thunderbird on Windows 11 and I have foolishly allowed it to update itself to release 128.1.0.esr without checking the bug reports first. Now it turns out that this release removed the possibility to search the calendar for past events, which is absolutely essential for me. There is a Bugzilla entry for this but it is bogged down in discussions about who needs which date ranges to search in and how many instances to show for recurring events, so I don't expect a solution any time soon. How can I revert Thunderbird to the last release which still has that functionality? I have regular backups of my userprofile folder in case it helps.

I cannot send any eMails untill after 5PM PST. Then everything works fine until the next day.

How do I fix this problem?

Hello, recently I've been getting several Certificate warning messages that seem to have cleared up, but two problems persist. When I try to send email from domain hosted accounts (POP3), I get the image I have added, stating the sending has failed. When I send email from my ISP account (Comcast), I get "message was sent," but can't be copied to the Send folder. Any ideas? Thank you. (Windows 10 desktop, Norton Antivirus)

Why doesn't it copy that message to the local folder and then move it to Bin/Trash?

Thunderbird (vers 128.1.1esr) folders (INBOX, SENT) have a correct list of messages but when individual messages are clicked to be viewed in a tab, nothing shows up.

The person thinks they might have done a compact earlier today.

I have tried starting in Troubleshoot mode - same problem.

When I try repair on a folder - messages between Feb 2023 and today (Aug 26, 2024) disappear from the list.

I have tried to compact again - same problem.

I backed up the Profile folder once I was aware of the problem.

What else can I try?

ich habe seid dem 13.08.2024 Probleme mit dem gesendet Ordner. Alle Mails vom 12.11.2020 bis zum 13.08.2024 werden nicht mehr angezeigt. Die Mails nach dem 13.08.2024 werden ohne Inhalt angezeigt und mit dem falschen Anhang. Ab dem 22.08.2024 funktioniert es wieder normal.

Was kann ich nur tun??? Über Hilfe wäre ich sehr dankbar.

Hi, Why do I have to click twice in a row on a message in the trash that I want to delete? This is how I do it: The message is moved to the trash and should be deleted from there. I mark the message in the trash and then click once on Delete at the bottom right. A window appears asking if I really want to delete. I then click once on Delete and neither the window nor the message disappears. Only when I click on Delete a second time do the window and the message disappear from the trash. Hi there, thanks in advance for your help. I don't know what I did but I can no longer see my messages in my inbox and that includes any new messages that come through. I can see the number count of messages that are in there and I can see a number count of the new messages that have come in but no message. No new messages or any of my previous ones. If I do a search on any words in the search box, any messages that match that do come up and I can see them but I don't know what to search for new messages that will come in because I don't know who they may have come from. I do have another email account and that one is working fine. I'm wondering if the messages are sitting invisible somewhere and i have just pushed something I shouldn't have on that account. Also when I click on folders on the affected account like 'sent' etc, the messages in these folders so up absolutely fine. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help

Hello! I recently got the update to Thunderbird 128 on my PopOS laptop via sudo apt update/upgrade. I don't know what the previous version was. Since the update, Thunderbird will spike my CPU to 120 - 140% (per command-line "top") if I have an interaction with it (e.g. reading and then deleting an email that was received) after the program has been sitting idle for several minutes. After a few minutes of loud fans, things calm down again so I presume Thunderbird is doing some sort of maintenance routine that completes successfully.

I do not have the global search index thing turned on. I did not change the default mailbox db idle time. I do have rather large mailboxes that are synced via SMTP, from three different providers. There are dozens of folders (not hundreds) containing thousands if messages (but not tens of thousands). Hopefully that gives an idea of scale .. I don't have a massive overload of untended email history but I do have a quantity of historical emails that the system has to deal with.

I followed the excellent directions online to obtain a profile during one of these high-cpu sessions. It is available at https://share.firefox.dev/4dAmyAz

Please let me know if there is anything further I can do to help diagnose this issue, such as generating more specific profiles. The high-cpu state is a pretty common occurrance now.

Can still see content in emails that are in other folders, seems to be only inbox that will not show content of the emails

New emails arriving will show content as well as some old old emails in inbox

Hi, I've been using CalDAV on my Synology server to synch between my desktop Thunderbird instance and handheld without problems. I recently added my laptop as a third platform which synched fine. However now I am working offline (I have an Internet connection but no remote access to Synology), Thunderbird repeatedly comes up with the message:

An error occurred when writing to the calendar My Calendar! Please see below for more information. Error code: MODIFICATION_FAILED.

The error message is maximally annoying as it steals focus from all Thunderbird windows then hides in the background, making it look like the app has disappeared entirely.

I have Offline Support checked in the calendar properties. Platform: Windows 11. I've tried deleting calender_date\cache.sqlte as suggested elsewhere but that makes all my appointment disappear.
