Firefox doesn't connect unless I restart browser

Whenever I turn off my wifi or if I lose connection, the browser stops working after I resume connection. It won't connect to any site. I have to restart the browser and then it works fine. I have this problem on both the desktop and laptop. Win 7 and Win 10. How can I fix this?

Does it make any difference if you turn "Work Offline" off and on again? You can find that under:

  • menu button > Web Developer > Work Offline
  • (menu bar) File > Work Offline

If that was the problem, you could try switching the following preference. I haven't tested this myself.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste offline and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the network.manage-offline-status preference to switch the value between true to false

Does that change anything?

You can also try different connection settings to see if you can find one that works better.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

See "Firefox connection settings":
