Since one of the recent updates, Firefox prevents Windows 7 from shutting down. This happens whichever web page is displayed.

And when I click "Cancel" to the shutdown process Firefox crashes.

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Firefox prevents windows from shutting down

First off, you are supposed to shut down all programs Before you shut down your system. Not doing so could result in program crashes or corrupted data.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Firefox does have a "shutdown procedure" to close all the files that are open while Firefox is being used, which is when user data is saved so as to not lose any user data that might be in a SHM or WAL sqlite database file. Not using a "Quit" or "Exit" command / menu item and trying to close the operating system while applications are running will disrupt the Firefox shutdown procedure

Have you tried using File > Exit and closing Firefox before going to shut down Windows 7 ?? Or using { Ctrl + Shft + Q } to "quit" Firefox before closing Windows? Also there is an Exit menu item at the bottom of the "Menu panel" which appears when you hit the 3-bar toolbar button.
