Any drop-down menu on website works "fine" but the render was wrong. When clicked, nothing could be shown but only the drop-back shadow. It just like the menu become total transparent.

PS: any white colored firefox menu, "New tab""Print""Developer", has the same problem.

Everything will be all right in safe mode, tried to disabled all addons/plugins,reseted setings,be do not help at all.

PS2: Changing theme could fix this problem

Update the video display driver to the latest version.

Disable hardware acceleration in Firefox 4.0:
Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: [ ] "Use hardware acceleration when available"

My driver is latest laptop OEM driver for NVS 3100M. Which is the latest driver that I could get. Losing hardware acceleration is not bearable for me.

So do I...

Disabling hardware acceleration did indeed fix the problem, thanks! Unfortunately, I'm on a Thinkpad and Lenovo is very slow at getting the latest driver updates out. I too have the latest available driver. This is still an issue Mozilla should try to resolve if folks like me and Mike are on the newest available drivers for our systems.

Also, it looks like the problem's been around since at least 3.6.6: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/716983

That's true, I've never found this defect on Firefox 4 beta1 pre -Firefox 4 Beta6(hardware acceleration enabled).Display driver may be the problem for some newly add acceleration feature, maybe there should be a switch for detailed hardware acceleration settings:-)

Disabling HW Acceleration does NOT fix the problem.

It is purely just a workaround. There is a difference. This is a bug within the Firefox engine. No other apps have this problem.

On a side note, it looks like a problem when there are several addons/extensions enabled on the system. If I disable enough extensions (flash, java, etc.) then the problem goes away.

Further this occurs only on one of my displays, so if FF team is going test this, I would recommend using a system with multiple displays for the problem to show up more often.

I'm using the latest driver for my machine, but still have the problem, however, I did find that if I unplugged the working display (forcing the "broken" display to be the primary) then the problem goes away temporarily, then returns at some random time later.

While I agree the display adapter has some lending to the issue, the real issue resides in FF's ability to use the hardware acceleration.
