Hi there

New Mac Book Pro M1 running Big Sur 11.1

Firefox is being a nightmare. Forgets everything. Logs out of everything. Logs out of Firefox itself everytime I quit. So everytime i open firefox I have to sign in to Google (my homepage), BUT... because it has also logged me out of Firefox itself, I have to enter a very long password each time. Sooooo boring.

What is going on? Is this really apple not wanting people to use anything other than safari?

Any help gratefully received

Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file.

Open the Firefox Disk Images file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Images, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

You can check if there are no longer used profiles that you may want to remove because of this. Note that Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so you need to look at both location.

Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the "~/Library" folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.

Thank you SO much for that. Working now. And no longer have the firefox 'drive' on my desktop. Makes sense.

Re: the redundant profiles, I don't know what I'm looking at. There's 9 folders in the profiles folder. Don't know which I would need to delete. Screenshot attached.

Cheers for your help
