Running Firefox 33.0.2 on Mac Mavericks. Set to do auto updates but every time it tries to update firefox, it just gets stuck "connecting" and never actually updates. I tried going directly to Mozzilla and doing it from there but same thing. In last few days since getting these messages to update, in email a script error occurs repeatedly and then Firefox crashes. How can I update when it won't complete it?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
