I have been using Windows Live Mail and when you click on "TO" in a new message the address book opens.

I switched to Thunderbird and would like the same function. It does not do that. Is there a way to get this function?

OS: 8.1 Thunderbird: 31.6

Thanks much

Airmail,

Thanks for the reply however, F9 is a volume control on my laptop.

I did find under "VIEW" the capability to open addy side bar. This works fine.

Thanks again.

This is not Outlook. Clicking To is not going to bring up the address book. Open a write window and turn on the contact sidebar by pressing F9. You can also start typing in an address field an get suggestions. There are a few bugs in this option right now that are to be fixed in the next release. Or so they promise.

Most "F9 as volume control" only works that way if the FN button is being pressed. But you found it anyway and that is what matters
