I have Windows 10. After the firefox installed its updates today, it can no longer be loaded. Error message says that platform version 57.0.1 is not compatible with minversion 57.0 maxversion 57.0. It is very annoying that firefox is installing updates that make it dysfunctional! What is the solution to this insane problem?

Chosen solution

I ran %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and then copied the profile to Mozilla Firefox folder. It worked and now the Firefox is loading and all the bookmarks are there. Thank you for your help.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.1 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

I went through all the steps that you suggested. Even saved the profile on my flash drive. When I click on the Firefox icon, I get the message that my profile could not be loaded. It is missing or inaccessible. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Firefox, but continue to get the same message and it does not load! I backed up the profile after cleaning the disk, but before Cleanup System Files. I do not know whether all of the bookmarks etc. got backed up, but the folders are there. Why is the Firefox not loading these automatically? Can these be loaded into it manually?

You Profile is corrupted. When it calls for it it can not see what it wants to. Thus the error message. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible So do the new Profile then have to dig out of the old profile what is not corrupted and merge that with the new one. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile

If need help, ask as do not want to get it corrupted more and unusable.
