Questions re Email Inbox and Reply window:

1) I can't find a list here showing the Inbox icons and what they mean, specifically this one. I can't delete it, nor do I see anything in the inbox list of column indicators that it might be. I'd like to know what it's for and if/how it can be removed.

2) I want to have more space for the message pane; the only way to do this is to have a smaller font size for the email List pane. I don't see where I can change this. Is it possible to decrease this font size? I've tried but haven't t been able to locate info on this website.)

3) Reply font: I keep changing it to my Preference, but it keeps going back to a default.

Also, find it annoying that I can't select a specific font SIZE. I've never seen a Windows desktop software of ANY kind, not just email, which doesn't give have choice of font size as well as the font itself. Is there a suggestion area on this website?

Importing old profile to new iMac

My old iMac fried the fans during its update to Sonoma 14.6 and though I can still turn on the machine and use it, my time is limited before things get too hot and I need to shut it down.

I have the older profile saved from backups but since I needed to check one account before I had everything all set up, I configured TB on the new iMac (OS14.6.1) to be able to check a gmail account. It worked and TB downloaded everything from that account. Now I either need to manually set up all the other accounts or try using my old profile.

I am concerned because the gmail account holds a lot of old (really oulde) data and I don't want it to be overwritten by the old profile which left all the email on Gmail servers. I won't be able to retrieve it from gmail since it was all automatically deleted when TB was set up to check the mail. I have it now, but will importing the old profile overwrite what I currently have for that account?

I need to check the other accounts too, they are from my own sites but if I need to, I could set them up manually. My servers do not keep copies beyond 30 days (my settings). Is it safe to import the old profile and settings? This version of TB (128.1) is not anything like the (says it is up to date) one on my old iMac. It would save me some time to import the old profile, is it too late?

After detaching an attachment from a message in my Inbox (viewing in Message Pane), Thunderbird automatically skips down to the next message. How do I keep it from doing that? Thunderbird 128 for Windows.

What I want is really very simple and should be logical. I read my emails in the Message Pane. After detaching a detachment, I want to then reply to the person who sent me the file. But Thunderbird automatically skips to the next message in the Inbox, so when I reflexively hit "Reply," I'm suddently replying to the wrong message. It's really annoying. :-) And makes no sense. I'm not "done" with a message just because I've detached a file...

I'm pretty sure I managed to fix this once before, but all my searches only turn up answers to turning off "auto-advance" when deleting a message, not detaching a file.

Thunderbird V115.5.0 (on Debian Linux) - Can't Find the "Font Toolbar" in email "Write" window ... Where is it?

I've been using Thunderbird as my email client for decades. After a recent upgrade to software on my Debian Linux PC, I cannot find nor enable the "Font Toolbar" that was once available within the Write Window. I'd like to continue to employ Thunderbird as my email client, but this feature/capability is a necessity.

The "Font Toolbar" enables one to modify the size, color, and spacing(s) of characters, letters, words, and/or paragraphs, and one may also adjust the super- or sub-script, underlining, over-lining, etc., of the same.

I've just spent several hours attempting to enable this, searching and trying lots of bad ideas on the local Thunderbird GUI's settings. Still.... NO TOOLBAR! This is very disturbing for me. Given the plethora of search results returned during searches, this has been recurring for a good long time. There are lots of folks with this or very similar problems.

I'd like to continue using and enjoying what I have thought was a very good contribution to the globe for use on all sorts of operating systems. For decades, I've solely used Linux. I've liked Mozilla software from the get-go, and this has happened just once before several years ago. Luckily, there was a way to enable it in the "about:config" settings. Today, I couldn't even find a way to enter those settings in this newest version of Thunderbird - V115.5.0.

If the toolbar is still a feature, how do I enable it?

If my email provider's server was originally POP but my provider's moving to IMAP there's a good chance they'll temporarily support both versions.

And I've discovered that I can set up a 2nd email account in Thunderbird and link it to their IMAP server. Both email accounts will then download the same emails.

But of course my POP account (locally) will have a whole history of emails whereas the new IMAP account won't.

So rather can creating that 2nd email account, is it possible to set up (i.e. convert) the existing account so that it'll access the IMAP server, rather than the old POP one? I tried opening its Server Settings in Thunderbird and simply changing the Server Name and Port but that doesn't work. The Server Type remains as POP and even the Advanced settings don't offer any clue :-(

I just installed Thunderbird for Windows. I am on Windows 11 with all the latest service packs. I will also be installing Thunderbird on a Linux system as I am moving over to Linux permanently soon. So, if my question needs two different sets of instructions, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Anyway. I want a signature that looks like this: John H. Smith jsmith@something.com

I entered it in the sig file box exactly this way, but when I compose an email, it looks like this: John H. Smith jsmith@something.com

I tried turning on HTML, and adding an extra <carriage return><linefeed>, both to no avail.

Your thoughts?

Is it possible to assign a different color to each email account so that when I use the unified in inbox, the messages in the message list somehow reflect the color of their respective email account, either with a colored bar or background colour. That way I would know at a glance which message belongs to which email account. Many mobile phone email clients have this feature but I have not yet found it in Thunderbird.

Hello, I can see that the archive is full for an email account (we get an error message saying so when we try to send or receive new messages), but when I try to delete messages from my archive (to free up space), I see that my settings were set to never delete email messages. I cannot sign in as the administrator to change the setting so my messages will start getting deleted incrementally, because I cannot sign in as I forgot/lost my password.....any help on how to reset my password and change my email settings would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is there a way to show only the inbox's unread count in the sidebar when the account is collapsed?

Currently any unread messages are being counted, but personally I would like a way to only show the count number if those messages are in the inbox.

One example of this is sometimes I do not need to read a message and immediately archive it without reading and do not need to include that in the count, but its still nice to leave it unread in the All Mail folder just for future reference.

Since the most recent upgrade automatically pushed to my Ubuntu-like release of Linux, the menu bar of message composition is effectively invisible. If I hover over the bar I can faintly see the selections as white-on-pale-grey. I have not found where in settings to revert whatever was changed. It makes it hard to Send my messages!

I'm under the impression that the following setup used to work well, but ceased to sometime in the past:

Filter 1: ("junk from unknown senders"), enabled. - Apply filter when: Manually run, Getting new mail -> Filter before Junk Classification. - Match all of the following: From - isn't in my address book - Personal Address Book. - Perform these actions: Set Junk Status to: Junk.

Filter 2: ("delete all junk"), enabled. - Apply filter when: Manually run, Getting new mail -> Filter after Junk Classification. - Match all of the following: Junk status - is - Junk. - Perform these actions: Move Message to - Junk on myaddress@myprovider.com.

Filter 2 is lower down the list of filters.

Filter 2 works as I expect it when I run it manually with 'Tools'->'Run Filters on Folder'. However it is either never executed, or never succeeds in moving messages to the Junk folder when it is called automatically under the "Getting new mail" condition. I check mail automatically every 10 minutes on this IMAP account, but the messages marked as Junk by filter 1 are never moved to the Junk folder.

What might explain this?

Unable to change password for gmail using POP3

I have a gmail account which has been working fine with POP3 for years. The settings are: Server Type: POP Mail Server Server Name: pop.gmail.com Port: 995 Connection security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2

I changed the password on Google, but now I cannot get my email account to work.

When I try to retrieve emails, I get a popup box titled Enter credentials for <email>@gmail.com on pop.gmail.com. There's a box to Sign in to continue to Mozilla Thunderbird Email. My email address is filled in. But when I click the Next button, I get a Google error 400... and it says "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That's all we know." The URL in the popup box is 1209 characters long.

I cannot get beyond this. Any advice?
