All YouTube videos fail after 23 minutes 18 seconds using Firefox. No problem playing videos with Google Chrome.

YouTube HTML5 videos fail after 23 minutes 18 seconds. The audio becomes croaky and intermittent and the video freezes. I have to click somewhere on the video timeline for video & audio to resume. The video quality doesn't appear to be a factor because videos at 240p, 480p and 720p fail at the same time (23 mins 18 secs).

I disabled all add-ons and still had the problem.

I did a fresh install of Firefox and—before installing any add-ons—tested YouTube videos and got the same issue.

I've experimented with the "Override automatic cache management" box being unticked then ticked (with cache limit set to 200MB, then 400MB).

I don't experience this YouTube playback problem with Google Chrome (using Windows XP).

The problem seems to be resolved after an Adobe Flash update.

I went to that Mozilla support page before posting the question and I could not see a solution to this problem; video and audio work on YouTube videos, but only up to 23 minutes 18 seconds.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Appearance. Then select Default.

Now restart Firefox.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

That was very good work. Well done.

A small update: I was only able to play a few HTML5 videos successfully and then the 23 minutes 18 seconds video problem returned! I decided to download the Adobe Flash player extension from Mozilla's addons page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-video-player/?src=api

This replaces the HTML5 player with Adobe's Flash Player for YouTube videos. I'm able to play longer (30 minutes+) videos without any problems. This has been a successful workaround.

Had the same problem, erratic video/audio after 23 minutes. The above link straightened out the problem, thanks for the fix.
