Hello all, I have read some threads about gmail "all mail" folder and I need a bit of clarification. Now my "All mail" is populated by about 140.000+ messages and is consuming 250MB of disk space. I managed to create filters that MOVE automatically messages from INBOX to a local folder. But even if the filters work, the message is ALSO in the "All mail" folder. So, after checking that the messages are in the correct Local folder, I delete manually the same messages in the "All mail" folder to free some space on my computer HD. This works but it's really time consuming. What happens if I unsubscribe from the "all mail" folder? Will I get back 250BG of free HD space? Or not? TIA Tony

The allmail folder is a 100% duplicate. I always recommend unsubscribing. Yes, that will free up disk space.

Thanks David. This worked. But now I have a similar question related to a thunderbird folder created by a label I created in Gmail. The Gmail label appears as folder in thunderbird. That's ok. I unsubscribed from this folder but the folder is always there, consuming disk space. Perhaps it's different from the Gmail > subfolders? Please forgive my ignorance. TIA Tony

Well, I'm no gmail guru, as it has its own idiosyncrasies. I would try going online and setting the label to not show in IMAP. Then, start Thunderbird and if it still shows, I would try exiting TB and, in Windows File Explorer, deleting the folder within the profile.
