How do I restore e-mails moved from Yahoo mail to Thunderbird

Yesterday I installed Thunderbird on my Windows 7 system and find that when I launched Thunderbird, messages in my Inbox were moved to Thunderbird. I guess that if I had set up using IMAP rather than POP3, messages would have been copied. I have two questions: 1 Can I restore e-mails to my Yahoo mail Inbox? 2 How should I set up Thunderbird so that I can access e-mails received over a specific time period in future?

Set up a second instance of the same account, but using IMAP this time. Then you can move or copy messages from the first account to this new account's Inbox.

Thanks Zenos. Is there any way I can either move or copy messages now in Thunderbird back to my Yahoo Inbox? I appreciate that if I had set up my Thunderbird account using IMAP, I would have retained messages in Yahoo mail. (an example of my following instructions without fully understanding the process)

Ideally, I would like to use Thunderbird to deal with more recent messages and rely on the Yahoo search facility to access historical messages. It would take a considerable time to transfer all my messages!

I appreciate that maintaining a Yahoo Inbox of ever increasing volume is not best practice.
