thunderbird is opening with only black over the usual folder list and open emails - "home" page shows - nothing else

when I re-open thunderbird it seems to "hang" with only black showing over all the usual content and controls

it has not happened until today

its not crashed, as the command bar at the top "thunderbird, file, edit view, etc" is working

I am using version 31.4.0

any suggestions are very welcome

Make hidden files and folders visible:

Help > Troubleshooting Information

  • click on 'Show Folders' button - a new window will open showing Profile folder.
  • Close thunderbird now - this is important

look for and delete these files.

  • foldertree.json
  • session.json
  • localstore.rdf

Close window - top right X Restart Thunderbird.
