I have Firefox as my default browser and Google Search Page as my homepage. However when I click on a new tab, the pesky AVG search page comes up and i can't get rid of it. From what I have read, it looks like reinstalling Firefox is the only way to remedy this. But i want to save my Favorites, especially those on the bookmarks toolbar. So how can I reinstall and keep my favorites? Thank you

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.
