I have tried to download firefox 8.0.1 several times and even after many, many hours, it does not seem to load.

The pop-up suggesting I download the Firefox 8.0.1 comes up every so often and encourages me to do so for security and stability. Each time I click on the download, a box appears with a circling icon, indicating that the download is happening. Sometimes it is still circling the next day and still no closure to the download. Generally, how long should it take?

  Any suggestions?

Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the full installer. Run the installer and you will be up-to-date. Sometimes the updater just gets in a weird state...
