Situation #1: I use Firefox for months and months on a site, where it remembres the userid and password. Then suddenly tonight it doesn't remember either one.

Situation #2: When I go to a website I have to put the surdor in the "userid" field and press the down cursor. Firefox gives a list of userids, though only one belongs to this website. When I tab to the password field, Firefox sometimes remembers the password and other times remains blank. This has been going on for months, as well.

  • Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • In Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
  • Do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

You can try to repeat the action to use the Tab key to go from the user name to the password field a few times to see if that makes Firefox fill the password.

Thank you for your response. However, these settings are not the issue, as:

~ I am not using Private Browsing

~ I have Security -> Passwords -> Remember Passwords checked with nothing in "Exceptions"

~ I have Privacy -> History -> Remember History set

~ CCleaner is set to keep all cookies from these sites that Firefox goes to

i am having the same problem, have cleared all history, trashed cookie files/preferences, etc, and the problem persists. This has been an ongoing pain with multiple versions of Firefox for years, and folks at Mozilla seem to be unable to get to the cause. I can set up Safara and Firefox side by side, load up a site (surveygizmo is a perfect example), and Safari happily auto-completes my userid and password, and Firefox does not.
