How does "cntl F", "find" work? nothing happens when I hit cntl F or click on find in the edit menu

Upon displaying a web site after a search, I want to look for the word or phrase in the displayed page/s and in IE I just hit cntl F or find from the edit menu. It shows in the edit menu, but nothing happens when I use either method.

Does the Find Bar not show at the bottom of the Firefox window as shown in the following?
