My old computer ran windows 7, the operating system died and i bought a new computer. I opened firefox and i could not find my bookmarks. all the help articles say to find C:windows.old\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\moxilla\firefox\profiles\<filename.default\>bookmarkbackups

when i follow the path the default folder doesn't contain my old windows bookmarks.

The Windows.old folder is created by Windows when you run its Refresh feature, so I would be surprised if you have a C:\Windows.old folder on your new computer already.

Did you migrate any data from your old computer's hard drive (or SSD) to your new computer's hard drive (or SSD)? Are you able to access old data by attaching your old drive to your new computer?

Hmm, that's not good. Is it showing up as the D, E, F drive, etc., or it's not recognized at all? If there's a hardware problem, this wouldn't be the best site to solve that part.

To explore the relevant folder on the old drive, you need to set Windows to show hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files-0320fe58-0117-fd59-6851-9b7f9840fdb2

Then it would be (if your drive is E):

E:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
