My Google search field disappears on restart. I go to customize, add it back, and it disappears every time I restart. This is happening across computers.

There is a generic medicinal solution for PCs to run a malware check however since you are on a Mac we can try the following:
- [Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] please take note that this will remove add ons and any changed preferences and will restore Firefox to the default settings.

Your settings may have been locked by a program or add-on. If you are talking about the search bar, try these;
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
