I've been using Firefox for about 3 yrs now and i have never had any problems with it. Yesterday i was reading some news stories and it closed on me without any prompt. When i went to open it again i received the message, "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.". It was not running in any form. I've read the fix articles on how to remedy this problem but to no avail. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and had the same results. My "profile" folder is empty and I dont know what to do. Firefox is the only browser I prefer to use, plus it has all of the passwords i use to access my bank account, facebook, utilites etc. Please help!

Chosen solution

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
